With the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models, Apple added the Emergency SOS capability. By connecting directly to satellites, users would be able to send distress signals and disclose their position. This functionality is currently only available in the United States and Canada. It remains to be seen if this capability will be expanded to other markets.
Apple explained at the “Far Out” event how the iPhone 14’s Emergency SOS feature will work when the user is outside and under the sky. In an ideal situation, the company says, a message should be sent in less than 15 seconds. Even though there isn’t much foliage, it could take a while. Users will be encouraged to point their phones towards the satellite that is closest to them.
